“Walking the walk that is only ours to walk, we hold up that part of the sky that is ours to hold up.”

~Affirmative Yoga, Amy Lepine

Amy Lepine

Amy comes to teaching yoga after honing a lifelong personal practice. Having seen a variety of yoga techniques gain popularity and pass she increased her dedication to asana practice with the advent of Vinyasa yoga. A graduate of the Sacred Fig Academy and member of Yoga Alliance, Amy brings a focus on the meditative aspects of Dharana (concentration) and Dhyana (meditation) to her class. She encourages students toward their own personal truth and integration of one’s practice into present moment reality. Her flow classes tend toward the athletic while her restorative classes are deeply meditative. Amy is also available for private lessons offering her personal asana practice, Affirmative Yoga.

Amy admittedly came to meditation out of desperation. In the middle of a month-long jury trial she found that even when she got a full night’s sleep, she was still exhausted when she woke. Her mind kept racing, arguing facts and strategizing, even when she was asleep. She knew she had to take action and take control over her mind lest she succumb to less skillful tactics. Gratefully, she was introduced to transcendental meditation. “I needed a mantra to keep my monkey mind busy.” Since then she has explored other methods and developed her own technique for touching peace and stillness.

Amy leads a meditation group for lawyers as part of Wellness Wednesday, a program sponsored by the San Diego County Bar Association. She is a supporter of the Dharma Bum Temple and regularly sits there.

Amy spent decades looking for peace through physical exhaustion of athletics. After numerous marathons, triathlons, and endurance sports failed to bring her lasting peace, she found it in the stillness a personal practice brings. Let her show you how to develop your own Affirmative Yoga, a practice for life.
